Vidyarangam Kalasahithya Vedi is formed in the State level in 1996. In the very same year we started in functioning and activities of ‘vedi’ in this educational district. Sri. K. Thankappan D.E.O. who helped a lot to form in the vedi here. C.D. Azad of S.C.U. G.V.H.S.S., pattanakdu, was the first convener. Thereafter Sri. P.K. Shaji of A.B.V.H.S.S., Muhamma become the convener. Now, T. Satheesh of St. Rapheals H.S. Ezhupunna is the convener. He has been continuing in this post since the last 5 yrs. He is also working as N.C.C. Officer in the same school.
‘Vedi’ is now functioning smoothly in 48 Schools under the guidance of the D.E.O., Sri. M.D. Murali. Literary festivals and book fairs are conducting every year. Students are actively participating in the various competitions at State level. This Educational district has bagged first prize (two times) in ‘Kayyezhuthu Masika’ state level competition.
‘Vedi’ has been conducting workshops in various schools to promote the literary elegance of students in Nadan pattu, Script Writing, Journalism, Drama, Poetry Writing etc... Winners of ‘Thaliru Scholarship Examination’ (U.P., H.S) will be honoured with cash awards.
District level ‘Kayyezhuthu masika’ competition held this year (2006-07). St. Rapheal’s H.S. Ezhupunna has won first place in High School section and Tagore Memorial School, Maruthorvattam has won first place in U.P. section.
Monthly publication of State Institute of Childrens Literature ‘Thaliru Masika’ has morethan 500 Yearly subscriptions in this educational district. ‘Thaliru’ was published during November 2005 is a special issue. The contents of this issue was exclusively from the students of various schools under the jurisdiction of this educational district. It is absolutely a notable achievement of ‘sahithya vedi’. D.E.O. Sri. M.D. Murali is the part and parcel of this venture to guide as positively and promote the sahithya vedi as a fair treat among the students.
